### Responsibilities
The WJB Dorn VA Medical Center is recruiting for an experienced, full time Kinesiotherapist (KT) to work in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS;) providing rehabilitative services to Veterans by applying scientifically based exercise principles adapted to enhance the strength, endurance, and mobility of Veterans with functional limitations or those requiring extended physical conditioning. The KT utilizes knowledge, experience, and expertise to promote efficiency and improved patient care within the PM&RS; program. Duties involve working with the Veteran population in Extended/Long-Term Care (intermediate medicine, Community Living Center), Ambulatory Care (outpatient) and Acute Care (general, medical and surgical). Additional duties include, but are not limited to,
Using observation and fitness testing procedures to evaluate the patient's overall physical condition.
Gathering pre-evaluation data, interpreting medical record information, reviewing therapy prescriptions and evaluating the patient to develop and implement a treatment plan.
Conducting initial and ongoing evaluations of patients based on physiological, kinesiological and psychological knowledge.
Creating specific activities, group-oriented programs and routines to maintain or improve general state of health, physical fitness or conditioning where it is absent or to restore it where is has been lost due to disease or disability.
Selects, recommends, adapts, constructs and designs orthotic, prosthetic, assistive devices and/or major/minor equipment and instruct patient/caregiver in the proper use, application and care of such devices.
Educates and counsels patient, families and/or significant others about the disability incurred, and intervention measures to decrease the disability and any necessity to continue an at home therapy program.
Functions as an active member of the multidisciplinary team for the purpose of providing total health care delivery and continuity of care.
Complies and submits statistical data and reports quality assurance findings to document program effectiveness, caseload and patient treatment/attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (subject to change based on agency needs)

### Qualifications
**BASIC REQUIREMENTS**:
**Citizenship**: Citizen of the United States.
**English Language Proficiency**. Kinesiotherapists must be proficient in spoken and written English
**Education:** A bachelor's degree in kinesiotherapy, or exercise science with an emphasis in kinesiotherapy, from an accredited college or university. This education must have included or been supplemented by clinical practice in a VA approved training program or its equivalent. NOTE: This VA approved or equivalent training program is the transitory period between an academic environment and the medical environment which enables the student to apply textbook knowledge as a professional kinesiotherapist in an actual medical treatment situation. Graduates prior to May 1, 1998, completed didactic and clinical curricula approved by the Council on Professional Standards for Kinesiotherapy (COPS-KT, Inc.). Graduates from May 1, 1998, to the present have completed a didactic and clinical curricula approved by the Committee on Accreditation of Education Programs for Kinesiotherapy (CoA-KT). As of May 1, 2001, all recognized Kinesiotherapy programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
**IMPORTANT: A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education**.
**NOTE:** This VA approved or equivalent training program is the transitory period between an academic environment and the medical environment which enables the student to apply textbook knowledge as a professional kinesiotherapist in an actual medical treatment situation. **Preferred Experience**: 2 to 3 years clinical experience preferred, but not required.
**GRADE REQUIREMENTS**: In addition to meeting the basic requirements:
**GS-7**: Experience. None beyond the basic requirements. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of kinesiology, physiology, anatomy, psychology, exercise physiology, and pathological conditions. 2. Knowledge of treatment goals. 3. Knowledge of medical terminology and written documentation. 4. Ability to make recommendations regarding treatment.
**GS-9:** Experience or Education. Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or completion of at least two full years of progressive graduate education or a masters degree in a field directly related to the position. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1.Knowledge of policies and procedures of kinesiotherapy. 2. Knowledge of assistive devices to make recommendations, including fit and function of assistive devices. 3. Skill in applying therapeutic techniques. 4. Skill in instructing patients and families in a meaningful exercise program. 5. Ability to recognize an appropriate prosthesis for the patient.
**GS-10**: Experience. Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge and understanding of highly specialized complex evaluations and diagnostic tests and procedures. 2. Ability to properly assess a wide variety of patients having diverse and multiple disabilities to make recommendations for assistive devices. 3. Knowledge of teaching methods and learning principles, employing unusual motivational techniques and tact. 4. Ability to recognize an appropriate prosthesis for the patient, making adaptations and modifications without supervisory guidance or review. 5. Skill in coordinating treatment with other professionals to ensure patient compliance. 6. Ability to plan, direct, and distribute work assignments to KTs at lower grade levels.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-10. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-07 to GS-10.
**Physical Requirements:**Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); heavy carrying (45 pounds and over); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (6 hours); standing (6 hours); kneeling (5 hours); repeating bending (5 hours); climbing, use of legs and arms; both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; good visual requirement; hearing (aid permitted); mental & emotional stability required.
